The new Havasu Landing Resort & Casino is located on the western shores of Lake Havasu at Havasu Lake, CA.

In 2019 the Chemehuevi Tribe built a new $40 million casino on its 32,000 acres of land along 30 miles of Colorado River shoreline. It is be a 4-story structure with 25,00 square feet.

This casino 1/4 mile north of their original Havasu Landing Resort Casino, which they purchased in 1974.

The new property includes a hotel with 48 guest rooms and suites. There is also be boat marina and a general store that were both completed by mid-2018,

A 13,000 square-foot gaming floor feature 349 slot machines, table games, a restaurant and a lounge.

Ferry service is available from Lake Havasu City.

New Havasu Landing Resort & Casino Update

The new Havasu Landing Resort & Casino missed its announced July opening due to an unpaved parking lot. The paving contractor failed to meet his deadline and until the parking lot is completed, there will be no announcement of a new opening date.

July 31 was to be the grand opening for both the casino and hotel. It was also the date chosen for the liquor license.

The new casino will have a 13,000-square-foot gaming floor, which is 30% larger than the existing casino.

A section of the California shoreline at Havasu Lake will soon have a sparkly new jewel.

Glen Lodge said July is the target month for opening both a new hotel and casino. Lodge is vice chairman of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, which owns the existing Havasu Landing Casino.

“We’ve been keeping a lid on things up until now because of licensure,” Lodge said. He elaborated, saying that transferring the gaming license from the current casino to the new one has been a lengthy process. Additionally, the new liquor license from California’s beverage control board involves a fair amount of red tape.

There are also many moving parts involved in building the new casino and 48-room hotel, Lodge said. But the results will be worth it for patrons, he hoped. He compared the new facility to the existing one in terms of size.

“The restaurant will be about 30% larger, at 2,000 square feet. The casino will also be about 30% larger, at 13,000 square feet,” Lodge said.

In addition to a 117-slip marina with a fuel dock, the new resort will have a fitness center, an arcade for children and a small meeting space.

“We can accommodate small groups,” Lodge said. “We’ll also have a swimming pool outside on the south end.”

Initially, the tribe is contracting for five years with a management company to run the food, beverage and hotel features of the resort.

“Our goal is to train our own people so they can run things when the five years is up,” Lodge said.

With the need for more staff in all areas, he said plans are in the works to set up a careers website for new hires.

The one item that won’t change initially is the casino’s hours of operation.

“We won’t be open all night,” Lodge said. “We’ll need to see what kind of impact the hotel has on the casino business. Plus, being open all night is very expensive and would increase our overhead. We’d need another ferry boat crew and more staff in the casino.”

Havasu Landing Casino’s operating hours are Sunday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. and Friday and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Havasu’s residents and visitors typically ride the Tecopa ferry for transportation across Lake Havasu. Visit havasulanding.com for the ferry schedule.
